Network Theory and Analysis

Any discussion of internet based learning and information systems must get somewhat technical. Although I have little background in computer language or coding I want to get some background, at least enough to understand the main issues.

Network Theory and Analysis

syntax
In spoken language it is the analysis of the parts of speach and how they go together to create meaning. In computer language the analogy is appropriate, although, the complexity of computer language syntax is more intense.
related topics are:

Semiotics is the study of signs
for exxample with in the field of linguistics the signs are words.
It has three subfields
  • Syntax -or how the signs go together
  • semantics- the relations between the signs and the object which they signify
  • pragmatics -the relation between the sign system and the user.
Parsing is syntactic analysis or taking apart a unit of communication and analyzing he component parts. Instead of words in a computer language the units are tokens.
