Overview

I intend to begin my investigaton into the KA in three directions.

I will try to get more information the seminal writers in this field starting with Langefors

The second direction that I will pursue will be the concept of Web 2 the read/write web. Web 1 and Web 2 are conventions that describe the realtive connectivity of internet users. Initially most web interactivty was largely one directional with a few people generating content and many using it. Web 2 reflects an evolution where the internet activity can go both ways and inidividuals are as likely to contibute to a online resource as to simply consume it. Interactivity is the key feature. This feature will likely impact on learning and education with Web 2 featuring stronly in online learning scenarios particularly open source learning as opposed to learning that occur within leaning management systems.

John Seely Brown has been a major contibutor at the Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) the Xerox research facility. Brown has posted a working paper for a book that he is co-authoring with John Hagel. From Push to Pull- Emerging Models for Mobilizing Resources
Coupled with this concept is the idea of push pull systems. The old paradigm for dealing with resources was to "push" or make material available on the assumption that the generator of the resource knew what was need and supplied it at their convienince. With the "pull" paradigm consumers decide what resources they want or need and pull it from the supplier to construct their universe according to individual and circumstantial needs.

The third direction will be more digging into the Duguid and Brown concept of Social life of information.

The authors of this article suggest that grounded research is the best approach for investigating Info systems.
